DOST calls on HS studes to vie for the first nat’l Nuclear Science Olympiad
The Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is calling Filipino Junior and Senior High School students, or those in Grades 9 to 12, from public or private secondary schools in the Philippines, to join the First Philippine Nuclear Science Olympiad (1st PNSO) to be held this December.
To qualify, participating students must not be more than18 years old and must not be in enrolled or admitted in a university/college by 7 August 2024. This is because the winners in the PNSO will vie in the First International Nuclear Science Olympiad (1st INSO) to be held in the country on 31 July to 07 August 2024. Like the PNSO, the INSO is open only to high school students.

Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-developed technologies slammed it out in the recently concluded Seoul International Invention Fair or SIIF 2023 held in Seoul, South Korea, held 01-04 Nov. 2023.
Bagging major awards are DOST-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute researchers who brought home gold and silver for the Hemostat Technology and Carrageenan Plant Growth Promoter (PGP), respectively.

PH nuclear agency to host stakeholders meeting on plastic recycling
The Philippine Nuclear Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology will host the National Stakeholders Meeting on Plastic Recycling through Radiation Technology at the Park Inn Hotel, Quezon City on 06 November 2023.
The high-level meeting, to be attended by DOST Secretary Dr. Renato U. Solidum and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Deputy Director General Hua Liu, is under the framework of IAEA’s NUclear TEChnology for Controlling Plastic Pollution (NUTEC Plastics) and the DOST-PNRI’s project called “Post-radiation Reactive Extrusion of Plastic Wastes (PREx Plastic).”

DOST’s nuclear agency’s utility model bags first place in NCR invention tilt
The utility model called Propolis Alginate Dressing recently won first place in the Unlad category of the Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits-National Capital Region (RICE-NCR).
Developed by researchers from the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (DOST-PNRI), the technology offers several advantages over its commercial counterparts such as faster and complete wound healing, non-sticky, non-toxic, non-irritating, non-scabbing, among others. Further, once commercialized, the all-natural wound dressing is expected to be of much lower cost than existing popular wound dressings.
