PNRI celebrates International Day of Women and Girls in Science
Highlighting the growing role of females in the advancement of science and technology, the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (DOST-PNRI) joined the rest of the world as it celebrated the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11, 2021.
Through the celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the United Nations recognizes the critical role that women and girls have in science and technology. The celebration aims to promote a wider participation among women in sciences, and to advocate for gender equality in the field.
PNRI held two virtual forums on women scientists in the Philippines, both of which were hosted live at the PNRI Facebook page.
Watch the Virtual Forums at the PNRI FB page:
Virtual Forum 1: Women in Nuclear Science - Women Empowering Women

PNRI bags highest number of DOST IPA awards with 47 int'l publications
Congratulations to the DOST - Philippine Nuclear Research Institute for once again winning the highest number of awarded publications among DOST agencies for the third straight year!
A total of 47 publications authored by 32 PNRI scientists and researchers were each awarded the International Publication Award as part of the 2020 DOST Intellectual Property Awards.
Meanwhile, members of the PNRI Isotope Techniques Section won the DOST Utility Model Award for their work and successful registration of the "Method for Pretreating Alumina for Chromatographic Separation in Radionuclide Generator".
The awards were announced during the 5th DOST Virtual Flag Raising Ceremony hosted by the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST PHL), the Philippines’ leading advisory and scientific recognition body.
The DOST International Publication Award is given annually to DOST scientists and researchers who were able to publish their research outputs in Thomson Reuters (formerly ISI) or Scopus indexed journals in the last three years before the year of the nomination.
The DOST Granted Patent and Utility Model Registration Awards are given in recognition of the efforts of DOST technology developers whose technologies have been granted patent or utility model registration in the last three (3) years preceding the award.
The record number of publications is the highest achieved by PNRI as yet, having continuously garnered the awards since the first DOST IPA in 2013. PNRI has also previously won the most number of publications among DOST agencies, having earned the same distinction in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2019.

PH nuclear S&T innovations go online at Atomic Energy Week
Online is the way to go this season as the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (DOST-PNRI) celebrates the 48th Atomic Energy Week (AEW) from December 7-11, 2020. Throughout the week, the Institute will use the online platform to showcase the latest developments in the local nuclear S&T community.
Comprising virtual events, contests, exhibits, and a research conference, this year’s online celebration will be simulcast across various social media platforms to reach more attendees while ensuring everyone’s safety.
With the theme “Agham at Teknolohiyang Pangnukleyar: Sandigan ng Kalusugan, Kaayusan, Kabuhayan at Kinabukasan," the Institute highlights the atom’s role in addressing pressing problems in the society and in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The theme also highlights nuclear energy’s potential in contributing to economic recovery and adapting to the “new normal” particularly through the government’s recent interest in nuclear power as the government studies its inclusion in the energy mix.
