- The DOST-PNRI continues to closely monitor the situation at the Fukushima-Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. The condition in the plant remains very serious but is slowly getting better.
- As of 18 April, the radiation levels in the surrounding prefectures except Fukushima and Ibaraki are within the typical Japanese background levels of 50-100 nanosieverts per hour (nSv/h). Ibaraki showed a maximum dose rate of 132 nSv/h while Fukushima showed a maximum dose rate of 1,900 nSv/h.
- The Japan Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) announced that the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) had issued a "Roadmap towards Restoration from the Accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station". The roadmap outlines 63 measures to be undertaken over a period of six to nine months. The link to this report is found among the links listed below.
- The Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) air monitoring station in the Philippines being serviced by the DOST-PNRI detected the following radioactivity concentrations:

- The peak values on March 24 correspond to a dose of 131 nanosieverts in a year; sleeping next to someone for 8 hours a day for one year gives a dose of 20,000 nanosieverts because of the natural radioactivity present in the body.

** The above Cesium-137 levels in the soil, water, and fish samples are within background levels. The Cesium-137 is residual activity from atmospheric nuclear weapons testing in the 1950’s and 1960’s, not from the Fukushima accident.
