The Philippine Association for Radiation Protection, (PARP) will hold its 13th Biennial Convention on 2-4 October 2009 at the Victoriano J. Rodriguez Multi-purpose Hall, Provincial Capitol, Puerto Princesa City. The theme for this year’s Convention is “Strengthening Radiation Protection Worldwide: Philippine Challenges”.

As an organization of professionals and allied workers engaged or interested in radiation protection activities, PARP aims to promote radiation safety and protection in medicine, industry, research and education which has an increasing number of users over the years.

To present and discuss the different issues in radiation protection that the country is currently facing, technical sessions will be delivered encompassing the different practices. Scientific lectures will be delivered by experts in the field from the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute, Bureau of Health Devices and Technology-DOH and other experts to include:

  • International Basic Safety Standards for Radiation & the WHO and IAEA Initiatives in Radiation Protection in Medicine
  • Radiation Protection Considerations in the Design and Use of Radiography Systems, Radiation Therapy Facilities, & Nuclear Medicine Units
  • Radiation Protection in Non-ionizing Radiation
  • Nuclear Power and Safety Issues
  • Radiation Protection Considerations in the Design and Use of Baggage & Cargo Inspection X-ray Systems and Industrial X-ray Units
