Nuclear Technologies for Disaster Preparedness at AGRIDAM 2024
The benefits of the Atom are back in the North, as DOST-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute features its nuclear and radiation-based technologies designed to meet the challenges of natural hazards and disaster preparedness during the AGRIDAM 2024 exposition at Sanchez Mira, Cagayan.
These technologies include radiation-processed hemostats for controlling bleeding in emergency and medical settings, nuclear analytical techniques for water resources, and the establishment of radiation monitoring stations across the country. PNRI’s own researchers and experts explained these innovations to representatives of various local government units, disaster risk reduction and management offices, and students.
With the theme “Advocating Disaster Readiness and Resiliency in Region 2”, the exhibit was spearheaded by the DOST Region 2 in partnership with Cagayan State University from February 20 to 23, 2024. Using the Ilocano term for being awakened and alert, AGRIDAM served as an acronym encapsulating the values promoted by the event for disaster preparedness: Agile, Gender-Sensitive, Resilient, Innovative, Dedicated, Alert and Mindful.
