The sounding of the buzzer signals the opening of the HANDA Pilipinas exhibit at the House of Representatives.

HANDA Pilipinas exhibit in House of Representatives features radiation technologies

Legislators and other government officials were treated to a showcase of nuclear and radiation technologies for disaster risk reduction and management as the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) joins in the first of 2024’s HANDA Pilipinas exhibitions from January 22 to 24 at the House of Representatives.

DOST Secretary Renato Solidum, Jr. and House S&T Committee Chairperson Carlito Marquez led lawmakers and officials in checking out the technologies featured by PNRI and its sister agencies, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration and Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology

PNRI scientists, researchers, and regulators demonstrated the various environmental radiation monitoring systems being established across the country, and equipment used for nuclear and radiological emergency preparedness and response, as well as the radiation-processed hemostats used to stop bleeding in medical and emergency settings.

With the title "Innovation in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Exposition," HANDA Pilipinas aims to raise awareness and discussions on the impact of various natural disasters and how science, technology and innovation can help prepare for or mitigate the risks during such emergencies and disasters.

Further, the event also aims to promote the crafting of enabling laws and policies on disaster mitigation and risk reduction on the part of legislators and their technical staff.

Organizers of HANDA Pilipinas at the House of Representatives are the DOST Legislative Liaison Office or DLLO and the House Committees on Science and Technology, Climate Change, and Disaster Resilience.
