Dr. Vallerie Ann I. Samson is an Associate Scientist at the DOST, in detail at the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute.

Prior to her joining the DOST, she was Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Physics (NIP) at the University of the Philippines Diliman from 2018-2020.

She obtained her MS Physics degree from the NIP in 2006 and her PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Tsukuba in 2012 where she got the Best PhD Thesis Award. Her PhD work was also awarded the Jerome Cohen Student Award given by the Denver X-ray Conference-International Center for Diffraction Data (ICDD).

From 2012-2014 she was a postdoctoral researcher at the National Institute for Materials Science in Tsukuba, Japan and from 2014-2017 a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at the microXAS Beamline Project of the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland. She jointly holds two (2) patents for X-ray and neutron imaging instruments developed with her Japanese collaborators.
