Nuclear tech featured down south at Zampen RSTW X HANDA Mindanao Leg
Capitalizing on the importance of science despite the onslaught of natural hazards, scientists from the DOST - Philippine Nuclear Research Institute showcased vital nuclear technologies and life-saving initiatives in this year's Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) celebration in Zamboanga Peninsula, back-to-back with the HANDA Pilipinas Mindanao Leg held from September 23 to 25 in Zamboanga City.
Among the technologies featured in the RSTW booth are PNRI's nuclear medicine facility which will focus in the early diagnosis and treatment of diseases, as well as the Institute's radiation technologies for processing food and medical products.
Meanwhile, HANDA features the country's current developments towards a national radiological emergency preparedness and response and the use of isotope hydrology studies in assessing groundwater and soil contamination after flooding during typhoons or storm surges.
PNRI and one of its technology adopters also presented to interested stakeholders the Institute's award-winning carrageenan plant growth promoter which can increase the yield of various food crops.
The event aims to continue the push towards the increasing role of science, technology and innovation in building smarter and more sustainable local communities ready to face natural hazards and the challenges of economic development.
